Our objective is to offer you a complete birding tour covering the main birding habitats in Costa Rica from lowlands to highlands and from dry to wet areas and everything in between. With good planning and the help of local expert bird guides we will help you to get you as much bird species as possible.
Welcome at airport and private transfer to Hotel Bougainvillea. This is a comfortable hotel with access to a large botanical garden full of colorful flowers, butterflies and birds. This a good place to look for the spectacular Lesson’s Motmot.
Stay in Selva Verde Lodge, beautifully integrated in the rainforest with access to trails and active birdfeeders. A ½ day privately guided tour through La Selva biological station is included. Look for local specialties like Snowy Cotinga, Great Green Macaw, Great Tinamou,..

Head down to the town of Abangaritos. You will enter a different world of savannas and pieces of tropical dry forest with completely different set of birds in the cozy La Ensenada Lodge. On day 7 you can enjoy a private boattour on the Ocean and mangroves.
Hotel Villa Lapas is conveniently located near the local birding hotspots. You will go on a private guided tour in Carara to look for local targets like Orange-collared Manakin, Streak-chested Antpitta and a private boattour on Tarcoles River for Mangrove Hummingbird, Kingfishers,…
You will head to the extreme Southern Costa Rica. Esquinas Lodge offers great birding opportunities for species hard to get anywhere else like Fiery-billed Aracari, Baird’s Trogon, the endemic Black-cheeked Ant-tanager. A private guided birdtour will be offered on day 11.
End in style with Hotel Savegre in San Gerardo de Dota. Here you can enjoy a great service and the many endemic bird species that live here and the spectacular Resplendent Quetzal. There is a ½ day private guided birdtour on day 13.
Drive back to San José. Last night in Hotel Buena Vista, on the flanks of Poas Volcano, surrounded by coffee plantations and with spectacular views on the Central Valley. On day 15 transfer to airport.
